Delicious Bengali Curry - Lau Ghonto.

Main Ingredients Bottle Gourd

Lau Ghonto is a Bengali vegetarian side dish.Its main ingredient is bottle gourd which is called as lauki in hindi and lau in bengali. It is very simple to cook and very tasty. Bottle gourd has numerous health benefits and specially good for old aged peoples.Bottle gourd is not only rich in essential minerals, iron, protein and trace elements but it is also rich in fibre.

  • 3 tbsp mustard oil
  • 1 tsp mustered seed
  • 1 tsp ginger grated
  • 1 medium size grated bottle gured
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • salt to taste
  • 2 green chilli
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • few coriander leaves

  1. Take a wok add mustard oil.
  2. When the oil is hot add mustard seed in it,then add grated ginger.When seeds crackle add grated bottle gourd.
  3. Add turmeric powder,sugar and salt.Stir well and cover it with a lid and cook it in medium heat.
  4. After 10-15 minutes remove the lid and check the bottle gured is perfectly soft or not,now add green chilli and ghee and let it cook for a minute.
  5. Now add coriander leaves and turn off the flame.
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and served with hot plain rice.

Serving Instructions

Serve hot with plain rice or chapathi.
