Tangy and delicious potatoes with peas and tomato curry

Aloo Mattar is a traditional Punjabi dish made in every Punjabi household. It’s a very easy to make recipe which requires no fancy ingredients. It's something you can whip up easily if any guests come. Also this recipe does not use many spices so its relatively less spicy and rich as compared to other Punjabi recipes. This dish is eaten with hot puris or parathas for breakfast.

  1. In a wok heat the oil and add the cumin seeds. Fry till they start to crackle.
  2. Add the chopped onions and fry till they are light golden brown in color. This will take about 5 minutes
  3. Add the ginger garlic paste and sauté for 3 minutes.
  4. To this add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, dried fenugreek leaves, salt and sugar. Fry till the oil separates from the mixture. Add a little water while frying so as to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  5. Once the spices are fried add the tomato puree and ¼ cup water. Cook on a medium flame for 10 minutes or till the water has evaporated and the mixture sy=tarts to leave oil.
  6. Add the peas and potatoes along with a ¾ water. Mix everything well and cook it on a medium to high flame. As soon as it starts to boil mask some of the potatoes to make the curry thick.
  7. Once the desired consistency is reached, adjust the salt and sugar and serve hot.

Serving Instructions

Serve it hot with Puri or paratha
